How to use the Rich Text field

In this article, we will review the usage of the Rich Text field in PPM Express.

There are two separate field types of text fields in PPM Express:

  • Text – A single-line text field.
  • Rich Text – A multi-line text field that supports both plain text and formatted content, allowing users to apply formatting as needed.

To create a new multi-line text field, you will need to select Rich Text as the field type.

The Rich Text field does not include any additional configuration options. To create one, simply:

  1. Specify the field name
  2. Indicate whether the field is required
  3. Add a description (optional)
  4. Select Rich Text from the Type dropdown
  5. Click Save

Once a Rich Text field is created (this also applies to existing Rich Text fields), you can access formatting options by clicking the field and entering Edit mode.

The available formatting options include:

  • Font size
  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline
  • Strikethrough
  • Font colour
  • Highlight
  • Bulleted list
  • Numbered list
  • Insert a hyperlink
  • Clear format

You can enter text and choose to leave it unformatted.

Alternatively, you can apply formatting as needed. Depending on the length of the text, a portion of it may be collapsed, and a 'Show more' button will appear.

In Table and Timeline views, Rich Text content is displayed without formatting.

  • In the Timeline view, the text cannot be expanded, but the full content is visible when you hover over the Rich Text field value.
  • In the Table view, you have two options:
    1. Click Show more to expand the full text
    2. Hover over the field value to preview the full content

Delete

Note: Editing multi-line text directly in the Table view is no longer supported.

The same behavior applies to sub-entities. Formatted text can be added or edited in the Create and Edit panes. In List and Timeline views, the text is displayed without formatting.

Additional Information:

  • Rich Text fields cannot be edited inline or via bulk edit. Please use the full edit interface to make any changes.
  • OData feeds include both formatted and plain-text versions of Rich Text fields to ensure compatibility with existing default and custom reports.
  • When exporting to CSV and re-importing, all formatting will be removed from Rich Text fields.
